AI Prescription Software in India: 2026 Comparison

The short answer

"AI prescription software" is really three jobs wearing one label:

• AI-augmented EMR (HealthPlix HALO): makes writing a prescription inside the EMR faster and safer.
• Ambient AI scribe (EkaScribe): listens to the consultation and drafts the note, so you don't type.
• Patient record intelligence (Ayu Doctor): reads what the patient already has, including handwritten and paper records, and summarises it before they sit down.

A mid-clinic scenario

It's 11:40 AM. You've seen 34 patients. The next one is 58, with type 2 diabetes and hypertension, holding a handwritten referral note from a cardiologist in another city. You've got about four minutes.

The useful question isn't "can AI help?" It's "which tool solves this exact problem?" Faster typing doesn't read the referral note. That's the line this whole comparison turns on.

What "AI prescription" means in practice

The phrase covers a lot:

• Drug selection and interaction alerts: suggestions and warnings at the point of prescribing.
• Voice-to-prescription: speech captured during the consultation and turned into structured output.
• Clinical decision support: guidance on treatment choice and guideline adherence. Full decision support is still early in India. • Pre-consultation summaries: an AI brief of the patient's history before they sit down.

HealthPlix HALO: AI-augmented EMR

HealthPlix's website says it serves more than 14,000 doctors in India. Its NABH listing says the platform can generate prescriptions automatically from doctor-patient conversations in 11 languages. HALO is the AI layer inside that EMR.

Its drug-drug interaction (DDI) nudge has published data behind it. An observational study in the International Journal of Basic & Clinical Pharmacology analysed about 1.9 million patient visits on the platform and reported an average of 72,383 drug molecules removed after DDI nudges. It's the vendor's own platform data, so read it as a signal of real-world use, not a measure of harm prevented.

What it does well: speed inside the HealthPlix ecosystem, with interaction checks at the point of prescribing and language support for regional-language consultations.

Where it stops: HALO works on data inside HealthPlix. A handwritten referral note, a prescription from another clinic or a lab report from a chain outside the platform isn't visible to it unless someone re-enters it. The 58-year-old's cardiology note is the example: HALO sees today's consultation, not the paper trail before it.

EkaScribe: ambient AI scribe

Eka Care launched EkaScribe in September 2025 and describes it as an ambient scribe built for Indian OPDs. It runs on Eka's own model, Parrotlet, which the company says is tuned for mixed Hindi-English speech, regional accents and Indian drug brand names. The vendor lists support for 20+ languages and says it can run on its own or plug into existing EMRs.

What it does well: the workflow is different from a typed template. You talk to the patient and a structured note gets drafted for you. That suits doctors who find typing kills the conversation. The vendor reports that doctors save over 12 hours a week. That's a vendor-reported figure from its own users, so validate it in a trial.

Where it stops: a scribe captures the conversation in the room. On its own it won't tell you about the patient's earlier treatment at another clinic, the HbA1c trend over the last year, or that a new specialist started a drug your GP also prescribed. Context from before the room is a separate problem.

Pricing: the vendor lists a limited free plan. Paid pricing varies by plan, so check the vendor's site.

Ayu Doctor: all three jobs in one app

Here's the gap HALO and EkaScribe share: they document what happens inside the consultation. Neither is mainly built to make sense of the history before it. The cardiologist's handwritten note, the lab report from three visits ago, last year's IOP readings from an eye specialist: none of that exists in an EMR unless someone scanned and typed it in.

That's where Ayu Doctor started. Its OCR turns handwritten prescriptions and scanned reports into searchable text, lays them out on a timeline, and writes an AI summary of what changed, what's trending and what the last specialist said, before the patient sits down.

Which tool fits your bottleneck

You see huge volumes and typing prescriptions is the constraint. An AI-augmented EMR or a scribe goes straight at that.
