The short answer
Yes, you can use a health app in Hindi, Marathi and other Indian languages. In Ayu, open your profile, tap Change language and pick yours. The whole app changes with it. Your prescriptions, your documents and Ayu's answers are translated too, so your medical history reads in your own language.
The first video is the animated walkthrough in English. The second is Om, Ayu's founder, doing it on his own phone. See all 15 tutorials in the series.
Not everyone at home reads English
In most Indian homes, the person who needs the medical records is not the person who reads English best. A parent takes the medicines every day. A grandparent keeps the files. The prescription is in English, the lab report is in English, and the app on the phone is in English too.
So the son or daughter ends up reading everything out. That works until you are not there. The question "which tablet is this, and when?" should not need a translator.
A health app that only speaks English solves half the problem. We built Ayu to work in Indian languages so the person who uses the medicines can read about them too.
How to change the language, step by step
- Open Ayu.
- Go to your profile.
- Tap Change language.
- Pick Hindi, Marathi or another Indian language.
- Wait a little while. Translation takes some time to load.
- Open your history. Your prescriptions and documents are now in your language as well.
That is all. You do not need to re-upload anything. The documents you already added are translated.
Setting this up for a parent? It helps to do it together on their phone once. If you are managing their records from your own phone, see how family profiles work.
What you will see
| Step | What you see |
|---|---|
| Open your profile | The Change language option |
| Pick a language | The whole app switches to that language |
| Wait a little | The app, prescriptions and documents are translated, and your history is updated |
| Open a prescription | It reads in your language |
| Ask Ayu something | The answer comes in your language too |
Ayu is free on Android from Google Play and on iPhone from the App Store.
One honest limitation
The translation can take a little while. Right after you change the language, give it some time before your history is fully in the new language. Translation by AI can also get a word wrong, so for a medicine name or a dose, check against the original prescription.
