The short answer
On 26 September 2026 the growth scan prices we read on provider pages ran from ₹680 (Tata 1mg, Hyderabad) to ₹2,100 (Cadabam's, Bengaluru, growth scan with BPP and Doppler). Most metro listings sat between ₹780 and ₹1,900. The official CGHS rate is ₹2,000 for a growth scan that already includes BPP, AFI and Doppler at an accredited lab in a Tier I city.
These are booking prices at listed centres, not a quote from the centre you will walk into. Doppler, twins and your city change the number, and we show how much below.

Growth scan price by city
This table uses one provider, Tata 1mg, so the cities are comparable. 1mg is a marketplace: the "starts at" price is the lowest partner-centre price shown for that city, and the scan has to be done at a 1mg partner facility.

Read the scan name carefully. "Growth scan", "growth scan with Doppler" and "obstetric Doppler" are different products. Cadabam's own page says Doppler is often done as part of a growth scan, but its plain ₹1,900 listing does not say Doppler is included. Ask.
What CGHS pays for a growth scan
CGHS, the Central Government Health Scheme, publishes the one official rate list for these scans. In the October 2025 memorandum (effective 13 October 2025), the obstetric ultrasound rows for a Tier I city are:

Two things stand out. The CGHS growth scan is already a package with BPP, AFI and Doppler, and at ₹2,000 it costs less than buying Doppler (₹1,675) and BPP (₹1,500) separately, which would be ₹3,175. And Tier II cities are 10% lower and Tier III 20% lower than these figures. CGHS rates apply to CGHS beneficiaries at empanelled centres. They are not a price cap for other patients, but they are a useful benchmark.
The 7th, 8th and 9th month growth scan
People search by month, so here is the honest version. Growth scans belong to the third trimester, which runs from about week 28 to week 40. Splitting that into months is our own conversion, and sites do it differently:

The price does not change by month. A 7th, 8th or 9th month growth scan costs what a growth scan costs at that centre. What changes is whether you need one, and that is set by your doctor, not by the calendar.
- The ISUOG guideline says additional third-trimester scans are "based on local guidelines" and on maternal or fetal risk factors, and that repeat growth scans are best done at least three weeks after the last one, when indicated.
- In Indian practice, scans at about 28, 32 and 36 weeks are common. That is a pattern many clinics follow, not a fixed national rule.
- The same guideline notes that a scan at 36 weeks was better than one at 32 weeks at detecting poor growth, which is why late scans are often advised when there is a concern.
If your doctor has asked for a scan at a particular week, book that week. If you have a low-risk pregnancy and were not asked for one, ask why before paying.
What a growth scan measures
A growth scan checks that the baby is growing along a healthy curve and that the fluid and blood flow around the baby look normal.
- Biometry: head, abdomen and thigh bone measurements (BPD, HC, AC, FL) and the estimated fetal weight.
- Amniotic fluid: the deepest vertical pocket or the amniotic fluid index (AFI). An AFI of about 5 to under 24 cm is normal; under about 5 cm suggests low fluid and 24 cm or more suggests excess.
- Placenta and position: where it sits and how the baby is lying.
- Doppler, when needed: blood flow in the umbilical and uterine arteries. ISUOG describes Doppler as part of the detailed assessment when growth is abnormal or risk factors exist, not as something every low-risk scan needs.

We did not find any price card that mentioned a weekend, home-visit or appointment surcharge, or whether GST is included. Ask when you book.
Is a growth scan free in a government hospital?
Partly, and it depends on the facility.
- PMSMA (Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan). The official page says it is "envisaged that a minimum package of investigations (including one ultrasound during the 2nd trimester of pregnancy)" is provided to pregnant women attending PMSMA clinics, free of cost, on the 9th of every month at identified public health facilities.
- JSSK (Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram). Its guideline lists "Free Essential Diagnostics (Blood, Urine tests and Ultra-sonography etc)" among the entitlements for pregnant women in public health institutions.

What we could not find: any official sentence that guarantees a free growth scan, NT scan or anomaly scan at every facility, or a published government rate list that prices a growth scan by name. The two government lists we did find are old or narrow: AIIMS Bathinda's rate list shows an ultrasound "Fetal Well Being 2nd or 3rd Trimester" at ₹200, and a Himachal district hospital's user-charge list from 2017 shows a plain USG at ₹100. Call your hospital's radiology department and ask which scans it does and what it charges.
NT scan and dating scan price

NT scan (nuchal translucency). ISUOG says most experts measure it between 11 and 13 weeks + 6 days. Prices we read:

Dating scan. Indian centres sell an early pregnancy scan, usually at 6 to 10 weeks. This is different from the 10 to 14 week "dating scan" that ISUOG and the NHS describe. Prices: Tata 1mg's "Ultrasound Early Pregnancy (TAS)" ₹720 (New Delhi) to ₹1,350 (Kolkata and Pune); Cadabam's Bengaluru "US Pregnancy Dating Scan" ₹1,350; Dr Lal PathLabs Delhi "U/S Foetal Well Being (1st Trimester)" ₹1,280; CGHS ₹700 for the combined first-trimester scan.

Before you book: a short checklist
- Get the scan name and week from your doctor's slip. Growth scan, growth scan with Doppler and obstetric Doppler are priced differently.
- Ask if Doppler, BPP and AFI are included in the quoted price.
- Bring a prescription. Vijaya's pregnancy scan pages say a prescription and Aadhaar are mandatory, and 1mg's level II page says the prescription must carry the doctor's registration number, as the PC and PNDT Act requires.
- Do not ask about the baby's sex. Fetal sex determination by ultrasound is prohibited in India under the PC and PNDT Act, and centres will refuse.
- Compare two or three centres for the same named scan, and ask about twins, 3D or extra copies before you agree.
- Save the report the same day. Keep every scan in one place so the next doctor can see the growth trend.
